If you're looking for reasons to leave the house this week, we've got plenty. Between Pride festivities, live music, theater, baseball, and a new public art gallery, there's something happening in nearly every corner of town.

We're also keeping an eye on conversations about growth and what Sioux Falls will look like in the years ahead. It's an exciting time to be part of a city that's changing while still holding onto what makes it special.

🖼️ Civic pride meets local art at City Hall

The Gist: The new Charlotte Carver Gallery officially opened last week on the first floor of City Hall, bringing a vibrant, free public art space to the heart of Sioux Falls. Named after the late local arts advocate Charlotte Carver, the inaugural exhibition features 12 incredible neighborhood artists across a whole range of styles. The gallery's opening jury, which included Carver’s daughter Catherine Carver Dunn, already crowned Breanna Fischer's piece "Lighthouse" as the official winner, meaning the city is purchasing it for our public collection. You can walk through the space anytime Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Why It Matters: It gives us all a chance to celebrate the creative heartbeat of our neighbors, and we even get a say in its future. You can vote online for the People's Choice Award all summer long, which will land the winning local artist a solo show this winter.
🗺️ Talking taxes and growing pains in Sioux Falls
The Gist: Norm Van Eeden Petersman from Strong Towns National is coming to the downtown Sioux Falls library next Monday, June 15, at 4:00 p.m. to host a free talk called "Prosperity and Property Taxes." He will challenge us to think differently about how our city’s rapid development impacts local infrastructure and long-term financial health. Afterward, neighbors are invited to head over to SOURCE Downtown at 6:00 p.m. for a Strong Towns Sioux Falls chapter gathering to discuss future priorities.
Why It Matters: Sioux Falls is booming right now, but fast growth can create heavy financial obligations for the next generation. This presentation helps us understand the true value of our neighborhoods and how we can build a financially resilient community that thrives for generations to come.
