The Gist Sioux Falls relaunched its Neighborhood Connect platform on July 15. The online tool lets residents pull up development projects, permits, rezoning proposals, and code compliance for rental units by neighborhood, city park, or council district. The redesign swaps a lot of the old technical planning jargon for plain English and adds heatmaps that show where business activity is picking up.

Why It Matters: With building permits topping $1 billion four years running, a lot is changing block by block. Residents can now see what's coming near them without calling city hall.

😁 A local dental office is collecting school supplies

The Gist: Sensational Smiles is running a school supply drive through August 14 at both of its Sioux Falls dental offices. Supplies dropped off at the Phillips Avenue location will go to students at Robert Frost Elementary, while donations at the Minnesota Avenue location will support Horizon Elementary. They are asking neighbors for items like notebooks, crayons, glue sticks, and pencils to help local kids get ready for class.

Why It Matters: Starting the school year with the right supplies gives our local students a big boost in confidence and focus from day one. Plus, community drives like this ease the financial burden on neighborhood families, making sure every child in our community has what they need to succeed.
