The Gist: The St. Francis House has turned the Copper Arms building into 11 fully furnished apartments for neighbors with nonviolent criminal histories. 67-year-old James Brown wheeled in new furniture and called the place his own. Rent matches tight incomes, and donations have stocked every unit with kitchen tables, soft couches, and bright art.

Why It Matters: The project chips away at the housing hurdle that blocks second chances in Sioux Falls.
