🏥 USD Medical Training Moves to Sioux Falls

The Gist: The University of South Dakota will shift the first 18 months of its medical school program and the biomedical sciences division from Vermillion to Sioux Falls by summer 2027. Leaders say the change will give students better access to physicians, labs, and clinical training without long commutes.

Why It Matters: Future doctors will gain more hands-on experience in Sioux Falls, helping strengthen the state’s health care workforce. USD plans to repurpose the Lee Medical Building in Vermillion for other science programs and future campus growth. Read more here.

🎶 Parkston Needs Your Vote for Music Grant

The Gist: Parkston is in the running for a Levitt AMP grant that could bring $28,000 a year for three years to support its popular AmphiThursday concerts at East Park. The town of 1,500 has already made it into the top 100 out of 300 applicants and is the only South Dakota finalist.

Why It Matters: Winning would help keep free, family-friendly music thriving in Parkston and showcase small-town spirit. Text “Parkston” to 877-409-5525 by Sept. 15 or vote online here.
