🏈 8th Grader Speaks Up for Safer Football Practices

The Gist: An Edison Middle School 8th grader, Grant Hohn, asked the Sioux Falls School Board to let players wear Guardian Caps during football practice. The padded covers fit over helmets and are designed to reduce head impact. Grant and his dad noted that while coaches worried about helmet warranties, the NFL already requires Guardian Caps in practice and has reported fewer concussions since adopting them.

🎨 Sioux Falls Kids Thrive with Expanded Learning Centers

The Gist: Sioux Falls’ Community Learning Centers are making a big difference for local students. New district data shows kids in before-school, after-school, and summer programs have higher test scores, better attendance, and improved behavior compared to peers not enrolled. Chronic absenteeism is also way down among participants.
