And we’re almost down to the final stretch of January! The air’s still cold, but the week ahead is full of warmth: from monster trucks and a tropical skate night to whiskey tastings, Mozart downtown, and a burger wrapped in a duck-fat croissant.

Even the century-old State Theatre is throwing a quiet kind of party. Sioux Falls knows how to start a year strong, alright!
In today’s Scoop:

🥐 Butter, Burgers & Parisian Magic

309 S Phillips Ave, Sioux Falls, SD
As the sun rises over downtown Sioux Falls, a little slice of Paris beckons at CH Patisserie.
Chef Chris Hanmer’s pastry case dazzles with colorful macarons, croissants, and petite cakes, while January’s Burger Battle brings the cult-favorite American in Paris street burger (duck-fat croissant included) starting at 11am daily, while supplies last.
Now open Mondays, moving fast even when lines stretch. A sweet finish to winter, with a savory surprise!

🎭 Where art, science, and sound meet

301 S Main Ave, Sioux Falls, SD
Washington Pavilion simply keeps the calendar interesting.
One night it’s GQ’s instrumental quartet bringing humor and classics together, the next it’s a cozy South Dakota Symphony performance of Mozart in Mary W. Sommervold Hall. Tickets use all-in pricing, so the number you see is the number you pay.
Add rotating art galleries, the Kirby Science Discovery Center, and lively lobby moments, and it always feels worth the stop downtown.

🎬 A Century of Stories at the State Theatre

Photo from siouxfallsstatetheatre.org
The Gist: With winter nights lingering downtown, the State Theatre is celebrating 100 years on Phillips Avenue. Since opening in 1926, the single-screen landmark has been a gathering place for vaudeville, silent films, weekend matinees, first dates, and even love stories that lasted a lifetime. After closing in 1990, the theater returned in 2020 with restored seating, fresh popcorn, and an eclectic lineup that keeps locals coming back.
Why It Matters: The State isn’t just a theater, it’s part of Sioux Falls’ shared memory and downtown soul. Work continues to restore the upper levels, with opportunities for community support.
🐱 Midwinter Check-In as Cat Food Runs Low in Sioux Falls

The Gist: The Sioux Falls Humane Society is running low on cat food, and the mealtime chorus of meows is getting louder. The shelter cares for 100 to 140 cats on a typical day, and during busy stretches, that number can climb past 200. Wet food, dry food, and everything in between is disappearing fast as staff and volunteers work to keep every bowl filled.
Why It Matters: Healthy meals help these cats stay comfortable and ready for their next home. Donations of cat food or funds are welcome online or during open hours.
